Busy is a Sickness

I found an article on Huffington Post today that I thought was brilliant. It was called “Busy Is a Sickness” by Scott Dannemiller and it described the difference between stress and busyness. Busyness is the kind of stress we bring on ourselves- we create a pseudo-urgency in hopes of creating an urgency in others but what really happens is the building of anxiety and resentment. A surprising number of people are uncomfortable in stillness and solitude for fear of being alone with their thoughts. Sitting alone and just “being” is so scary for some that they avoid it by filling their day with useless stressors. We measure our worth by the amount of tics we can mark on our “to do” list each day.

Today, start taking inventory of your days and how you fill them. You are a worthy and important person and should be celebrated and nurtured in your peaceful times.
